Azerbaijan in Spring – our newest tour itinerary

We are delighted to introduce you to our newest birding destination, Azerbaijan in Spring. We have designed an itinerary of 10 nights and 9 full days of birding for a group of 4 to 8 people. The tour will take you to all the major birding sites in the country, guided by expert birder and tour leader, our managing director Dimiter Georgiev, and a local guide.

Our trip is timed to coincide with the likely peak of the breeding season, and to maximise the number of species we see, we will visit a variety of habitats, including extensive coastal lagoons, arid and semi-desert regions, open steppe and high mountains, including the Greater Caucasus Mountains. This exciting mix of habitats will allow us to add some late migrants and rarities to our bird list for the trip, as well as enjoying some other wildlife, such as the Goitered Gazelle.

Our main target species will be:

Caucasian Snowcock, Caucasian Grouse, Black Francolin, Bearded Vulture, Cinereous (Eurasian Black) Vulture, Shikra, Marbled Duck, Grey-headed Swamphen (Porphyrio poliocephalus), White-tailed Lapwing, Terek Sandpiper, Greater Sand Plover, Blue-cheeked Bee-eater, Great Spotted Woodpecker (ssp. poelzami), Bimaculated Lark, Turkestan Short-toed Lark (Alaudala heinei), Horned Lark, Bluethroat, Güldenstadt’s Redstart, Siberian Stonechat (Saxicola m. variegata), Finsch’s Wheatear, Pied Wheatear, Alpine Accentor, Rufous-tailed Bush Robin, Ménétries’s Warbler, Mountain Chiffchaff, Green Warbler, Caspian Tit, Western Rock Nuthatch, Wallcreeper, Pale Rock Finch/Sparrow (Carpospiza brachydactyla), Rock Sparrow, Red-fronted Serin, ‘Caucasian’ Twite (Linaria f. brevirostris), Great Rosefinch, Asian Crimson-winged Finch, White-winged Snowfinch, Black-headed Bunting.
