The first Red-breasted Geese arrived in their wintering quarters in the area of Durankulak and Shabla lakes, North-eastern Bulgaria
During the regular counting of the geese in the area of the two coastal lakes on 22 Nov 2008 one of the teams led by Mladen Vasilev observed at Duraknkulak Lake a flock of 54 Red-breasted Geese together with about 600 White-fronted Geese. These are the first Red-breatsed Geese in the area for the present wintering season. We hope that the cold weather in the North will bring most of the geese to their wintering grounds earlier this season...
The geese monitoring is carried out by the Bulgarian Society for the Protection of Birds with the support of Neophron Tours.
Next counting will be carried out on 30 Nov 2008.
